Grand Central Station
The Grand Central Station or Grand Central Terminal is on Manhattan in the Midtown area. It is the most beautiful and big station that we have never seen.
It was built in 1871, three differents buildings succeded. It was demolished and enlarged two times in 42 years. During the 90’s the station was completely renewed. During the refurbishment, they discovered a beautiful blue sky with a lot of stars painted on the ceiling who was hidden by the dirt (because of the smoke of cigarettes). They left a small rectangle to show how it was dirty.
It is the biggest train station of the world. It has 44 platforms and 67 tracks and it is also an important subway sation. There are a lot of wonderful galleries to get to the platforms. There are 40 shopkeepers (restaurants, fast food, newspapers kiosks, bakeries, cake shops) inside the station. The Principal Hall is the heart of the station, it is the place where there are tickets offices and the informations desk. The Dining Course is under the Principal Hall, there are some fast food and restaurants. The Vanderbilt Hall belongs to the station but it is only rented or used for events. There are a modern extension who allow to go to the station from the 47th and 48th Streets who called Grand Central North. The last part is the Subway Station.
People go in this train station to take trains who go in the suburbs of New York City. We take the train to go to Tarrytown in this train station.
You can see The Grand Central Station in several movies like « La Mort aux Trousses », « Les Incorruptibles », « L’Impasse », « Armageddon », « Le Jour d’Après », « I am Legend » and « Ice Storm ».
